Why Sex Crime Cases Need an Experienced Bail Agent

Sex crime arrests are different from every other category of charge. The bail is high, the conditions are strict, and the emotional weight on the family is unlike anything else. Most bail agents aren't equipped — financially or emotionally — to handle these cases. Chad is.

High Bail Needs a Bigger Plan

San Diego sex crime bonds often start at $100,000 and can reach $1 million. Chad can use home equity and other collateral so the family isn't stuck trying to raise it all in cash.

Complex Release Conditions

Sex crime releases almost always include no-contact orders, stay-away orders, GPS monitoring, restrictions involving minors, and mandatory check-ins. Chad walks families through every condition before release.

PC 290 Registration Implications

A conviction on certain charges triggers sex offender registration under PC 290. Chad explains what this means for the bond and what happens if registration requirements are violated while on bail.

Multiple Counts Stack

Prosecutors often file multiple counts, and each one can add to the bail. That is how a $100,000 case becomes $300,000 or more. Chad has handled these stacked cases before.

No Judgment — Just Results

Chad's job is not to evaluate the charge. His job is to get your family member home while the case proceeds. He treats every family with the same professionalism and discretion.

All of San Diego County Served

From Oceanside to Chula Vista, El Cajon to Escondido, Chad serves every city in San Diego County, including military families. He knows Central Jail, Las Colinas, Vista and the San Diego courthouses.

Cosigner Requirements for Sex Crime Bonds

Sex crime bonds require a strong cosigner. The bail is high, the case timeline is long, and the court conditions are strict. Chad will ask direct questions — not to judge, but to structure a bond that gets approved and stays approved.

  • Proof of income — pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements showing ability to cover the premium
  • Home equity or other collateral for larger bonds
  • Acknowledgment of all release conditions — cosigner is responsible for ensuring compliance
  • Understanding of PC 290 registration implications if applicable to the specific charges
  • Contact information for at least one additional family member or reference

Chad will be direct with you about what the bond requires. If there are concerns about collateral or conditions, he will tell you upfront — not after you've already paid the premium.

Chad's Real-World Experience

The DA Bail Escalation Tactic — And Why It Matters

Sex crime cases carry something most bail agents won't tell you about: prosecutors sometimes use bail as a pressure tool. Chad has seen it happen more than once — a defendant posts a $200,000 bond, then additional interviews with the accuser produce new charges, a re-arrest, and a bond increase to $600,000. The family scrapes together everything they have. Then it happens again — more counts, more charges, bond raised past a million dollars.

This is not a conspiracy theory. It is a documented DA strategy in high-profile sex crime cases. The family ends up trapped, unable to post the escalating bond, with the defendant sitting in custody while the case is built around them.

Chad's Credit Policy on Bond Increases

Here is what Chad does differently: if your bond is increased on the same case in the same county, you do not pay the full premium on the new amount. Chad credits what you have already paid toward the increase. If your bond goes from $500,000 to $1,000,000, you only pay the premium on the additional $500,000 — not on the full million. Every time. No exceptions.

This is not standard industry practice. Most bondsmen treat a re-arrest as a brand new bond and charge accordingly. Chad does not. He believes the family has already been through enough.

I believe you should always have the right to bail. That right should never be taken away — and it should never be weaponized against a family that is already fighting for their loved one.

A Word From Chad — Why I Do This

These bonds are usually large. I end up talking to a lot of different family members — mothers, fathers, wives, husbands, sisters, brothers. High bonds. And one of the things I've really noticed is that the cosigners and the family struggle with something deeper than the money.

Should I cosign for him — for this type of thing? It's so looked down on in society. The thought of even helping somebody if they did something like this. People really struggle with that. Sometimes it makes them sit back, take longer, dread going through the paperwork. It's a very, very sad deal.

I think it's hard to find the right thing to say. Because in a way, I feel like they have to go through a process — because it's their family member. Pick anybody around you that you love right this minute. Whether it's the most likely or the least likely person you could even imagine. It's just super hard to process. And on top of it, you're expected to decide: do I help them?

That part I truly understand. I've talked a lot about the hard things I've been through building this business. Fighting for people every day — seeing so much negativity, so much horrible stuff that people go through and do to their lives — it wears on you. So in a sense, I truly understand how these family members feel. And I think that's one of the reasons they're pretty comfortable with me. I don't judge.

Of all the crimes I can bond people out for — and there are a lot of big ones, big cases, big bonds — I have to say that for sex crime cases, I'm in this for the cosigner. If you could see what these families are going through when it comes to this crime, it's hard. There's just no other more horrifying thing for these cosigners. That's got to be the closest to my heart.

As for the defendant — honestly, I don't really think about them. I think about the cosigners. And I think about the Constitution. You've got all these powerful people talking about the Constitution, and here we are — gritty bail bond guys. But I genuinely believe that the right to bail is one of the most important, powerful things anywhere. The right not to be handcuffed, thrown in a jail with no windows, no lights, no way out, not knowing when you'll ever get out or why you're being held — that can't happen under our Constitution. That's why I believe in this process.

There are a lot of people who uphold this process — judges, court staff, bailiffs, police, criminal defense attorneys, investigators, specialists. And the bondsman. Honestly, sometimes I think we're more important than the attorney. Don't tell them I said that. But that's why I do it. Those are my words.

I'm in this for the cosigner. If you could see what these families are going through — that's got to be the closest to my heart.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will a bail agent take a sex crime case in San Diego County?
Many won't. The bail is high, the conditions are strict, and some agents don't want the case. Chad does. He doesn't judge the charge; that's the court's job. His job is to get your family member home while the case moves forward.
Which jail do San Diego County sex crime arrests go to?
Men are usually booked into San Diego Central Jail downtown. Women go to Las Colinas in Santee. North County arrests often go to the Vista Detention Facility. Chad can find out where your loved one is and start as soon as bail is set.
What is bail for PC 288 in San Diego County?
The 2026 San Diego schedule lists $100,000 for PC 288(a), lewd acts with a child under 14, $250,000 with force under 288(b)(1), and $50,000 when the alleged victim is 14 or 15 under 288(c)(1). Multiple counts can add to it, and the judge can change the amount at arraignment.
Can you help if the person is in the military?
Yes. Chad serves families across San Diego County, including Navy and Marine families. A civilian bail bond covers the state case. Military matters are handled separately by the command.
What release conditions should we expect?
Usually no contact with the alleged victim, stay-away orders, limits on contact with minors, and sometimes GPS monitoring or surrender of a passport. Chad walks every family through the conditions before release so nobody is surprised.

A real example (name changed)

Fred missed his court date, and he still owed a balance. Chad helped him anyway. He stayed up late with him and put together the paperwork to ask the court to reinstate his bond. On the way to court, Fred's car broke down and got towed, with the paperwork inside. So Chad did it all over again, and Fred came by the office to pick up a new set.

Some companies quote a low rate on the phone, then ask for more money once the paperwork is done, when it's too late to start over. Chad tells you what you'll need before anyone fills out a form.
