Domestic Violence Bail Bond Information

How much is bail for a domestic violence arrest?

If you are arrested and charged with domestic violence, here is what you need to know for bail bonds. Generally, there are two main charges and bail amounts that often come up.

Penal codes PC273.5 (A) are usually charged as a felony and often have a bail amount set for $50,000. The second is a PC243(E)(1) with a bail amount of $20,000.

The majority of what I see are these charges alone; if the person has an existing warrant, this could trigger a second bond for the warrant case. Another complication could be if there were any children present, and a PC273A(B) child endangerment charge is added. This can increase the bond from $50,000 to $100,000 or add a $100,000 bail to the $50,000 for a domestic charge. This will depend on the detention release officer or charging officer/ detective.

Do you need to hurry up and race to post a bond? Do speed and time matter? MAYBE

Maybe or maybe not. Here's what you need to know.

Why does it matter? Pomona Police arrest and house some arrestees, but some are booked in at Pomona Jail and then transferred to LA County Sheriff Main Jail or females to Lynwood Sheriff Station.

The difference for the person arrested is huge.

If they are bonded out of Pomona Jail they release time is usually 15-20 minutes after they receive the bond. Whereas if transferred, there will be transfer time, hand/ sign over custody, and booking into the county jail. All of this before the county will accept a bond. This amount of time is generally 6-8 hours minimum before they are bondable. Once the county sheriff accepts the bond, the release process is the reverse of booking, and approximately 6-8 hours for release from the bond posting. Adding about 12-16 plus hours compared to bonding out of Pomona PRIOR TO TRANSFER.

Who gets transferred, and how do we know?

Pomona resident arrested by Pomona Police will be charged and have a court case at Pomona Superior Court. So long as the arrestee does not have open warrants elsewhere or needs medical assistance/ care, they generally will stay put in Pomona Jail for their upcoming court date or until we post bond.

Warrants and existing cases outside of Pomona are handled by the LA County Superior Court, and custody is with the Sheriff's Department unless out of county warrant would be the county warrant is out of. In this situation, we want to work very quickly to post a bond while they are at Pomona so they are not transferred.

Pomona Jail does not have a full medical facility like LA County. If the arrestee is in need of medical help, has anxiety, or needs prescriptions, they will be transferred. This can drastically change bond and release time. Once they are booked in at the county jail, they will need a medical clearance in order for the bond to be posted/ accepted. This can vary in time depending on what staff are on, shift change, and if they want to watch the arrestee, or need certain results on a heart or blood test prior to release.

As your local bondsman in Pomona, I will call the jail and get information quickly for you. We will then know what timeline we have to work with so we can get them out of Pomona Jail prior to being transferred. If they plan to transfer, we know we have to work fast. If they are not transferring, it is helpful and takes stress off the family and cosigners to get everything together.
