Who makes arrests here

  • Oceanside Police Department: 3855 Mission Ave.

Getting the car back

  • Oceanside Police Records issues vehicle releases at the counter, Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. Records phone: (760) 435-4944.
  • The registered owner has to be there in person, or give you a notarized letter. Bring the license plate number or VIN.
  • The release fee depends on the reason for the tow and is cash only.
  • Police release counters are closed on weekends. A car towed on a Friday night usually can’t come out until Monday, and storage fees keep adding up.

Car not in your name? Move fast.

  • This is how a lot of families lose a car. Storage fees add up every day. If they grow bigger than what the car is worth, the tow yard can sell it.
  • Police and tow yards usually only release the car to the registered owner, or to someone with a notarized letter from the owner. Call the person on the registration today, not next week.
  • If you bought the car, bring the signed title (pink slip) and the bill of sale. Call the tow yard first and ask if they'll accept them.
  • Chad's advice: when you buy a used car, put it in your name at the DMV right away, even if the registration is still good. California gives buyers only 10 days to transfer it.

Every jail call is recorded

It's natural to ask, "Oh my God, what happened?" But if they answer, that recording can be used in their case.

  • It's OK to ask: "What are they accusing you of?"
  • Don't ask for details or an explanation of what went down. That conversation waits until they're out, or happens with their attorney.
  • If they start telling the story, be the one to remind them: "Not now. We'll talk when you're out."

Chad's tip, from nearly 20 years in bail. Not legal advice.

After the bond

The bond is just the start. Chad stays with you.

Price matters. But a lot of bail companies are salespeople sitting at a desk. They sell you the bond on the phone that night, and after that you get passed from department to department. With Chad, the same person who writes your bond is the one who picks up when something comes up.

Missed a court date?

Call Chad right away. We help you get back on the court calendar and get it fixed before it gets worse.

Bail raised, or charges added?

We explain what happened and handle the change to the bond.

A new case, or an old one just now filed?

Sometimes charges show up for something from before. We work through it with you.

Questions about your payments?

You talk to us, not a collections department.

A real example (name changed)

Fred missed his court date, and he still owed a balance. Chad helped him anyway. He stayed up late with him and put together the paperwork to ask the court to reinstate his bond. On the way to court, Fred's car broke down and got towed, with the paperwork inside. So Chad did it all over again, and Fred came by the office to pick up a new set.

You could roll the dice on whoever quotes the cheapest bond on the phone. Or you could have a bondsman who picks up when it really matters.
