Step 1: The Bond Is Filed With the Jail

After the bail bond paperwork is completed and signed, the bondsman delivers the bond to the jail. The jail verifies the bond, checks the booking information, and confirms there are no additional holds or warrants. This verification process takes time — it is not instant.

Step 2: The Jail Processes the Release

Once the bond is accepted, the jail removes the defendant from the housing unit, returns personal property, completes release paperwork, and provides court date information. At most Southern California jails, expect 2 to 8 hours from bond acceptance to release. Larger facilities like Twin Towers can take longer.

Step 3: The Defendant Is Released

The defendant walks out with their property and court date paperwork. They are now out on bail — but the case is not over. They must appear at every scheduled court date or the bond can be forfeited and a warrant issued for their arrest.

What Happens After Release?

After release, the defendant must comply with all bail conditions, appear at every court date, and stay in contact with the bail bondsman. The co-signer is responsible for ensuring the defendant appears. If the defendant fails to appear, the co-signer may be liable for the full bail amount.

After the bond

The bond is just the start. Chad stays with you.

Price matters. But a lot of bail companies are salespeople sitting at a desk. They sell you the bond on the phone that night, and after that you get passed from department to department. With Chad, the same person who writes your bond is the one who picks up when something comes up.

A real example (name changed)

Fred missed his court date, and he still owed a balance. Chad helped him anyway. He stayed up late with him and put together the paperwork to ask the court to reinstate his bond. On the way to court, Fred's car broke down and got towed, with the paperwork inside. So Chad did it all over again, and Fred came by the office to pick up a new set.

You could roll the dice on whoever quotes the cheapest bond on the phone. Or you could have a bondsman who picks up when it really matters.
